THROWING FRAME

June 2015 | 4 months

For the final project of my undergraduate degree at northumbria university, I decided to explore a very unique and relatively unknown area: throwing events for paralympic athletes.

Impaired athletes competing in discus, shot put, javelin and club throw use a seated frame to give them vital support and structure during their throw, whilst also creating a level playing field amongst varying impairments.

After an extensive research period I made my way through many different ideas, discussing different possibilities with tutors and collaborators.

Eventually I settled upon my final idea of a modular system and customised seat.

I created multiple CAD models, testing using digital simulations before going on to create a basic working prototype that demonstrated the key aspects to the design.
