ISTANBUL NEW AIRPORT

August 2014 | 2 months

The biggest project I worked on during my time at Interbrand was for Gebr. Heinemann’s brand Unifree DutyFree. Our goal was to plan and design the entire International Departure area for the new Istanbul Airport, which is planned to be the largest in the world, with construction of the first terminal having began in 2016. Our work won the pitch for Gebr. Heinemann to manage all retail and Duty Free within the airport for the next 25 years. Two of my final designs, a multi-use pavilion and a flight information screen, were used in the final pitch, along with a large amount of my support work (including building large portions of the CAD model). My designs, as with much of the departure lounge, were inspired by Istanbul itself. By thinking about traditional Turkish flowers and patterns, I created structures using a lighter-grained beech combined with interesting translucent pattern and future-scoped touch screen projections.
